The No.1 green upgrade has finally been decided with Hunter Quality Greens. Spraying will begin this month but play can still continue till major work begins on the 7th of October. The No.2 green will be watered each Wednesday and prepared for play from then till the 21st of December, from which day both greens will be out till the 15th of January. MCC green staff will divert their resources to the No.2 green while Hunter Quality Greens upgrade the No.1 green.Congratulations to Gary Flack for making it into the Rookies finals – he was able to win one of his two matches convincingly but was eliminated in the count off.Congratulations too to the Ladies Club for their excellent running of the Fathers’ Day scroungers, the lunch spread and deserts were well received, but the men were unable to dethrone Lorraine who won the playoff in a close finish.
The “information” Friday meeting was well attended, and the topics discussed included a greens update, our Club history, membership losses both for clubs and the Zone as a whole, membership fees in future, Zone expenses challenged, and also MCC management equity between golf and bowls. Comment was made of other smaller clubs experiencing problems of a similar nature to us.Aloha Bowls is on again and NSW will send 6 teams (pairs) to Hawaii for 5 nights and 6 days for international barefoot bowls. Registrations must be in by 11.9.15 and play offs will be between 10th to 23rd of October. Bowls NSW is offering a 50% reduction to new membership Aloha first year players, this offer ends 1/12/15. Last year three pairs from our zone made the trip.Those on our “get well” list include Norm Roberts, Noel Courtney, Michael Anderson, Max Lindsay, Brian Haines, Alan Vickers and George McClellan: we wish them all a speedy recovery.
